.jpg) Ivan is well aware of the public debate that occurred regarding the Barossa Valley Council’s decision to build a new recreation centre for the community. The current recreation centre was built 1976 – it is outdated and in need of a lot of maintenance work to keep it to an acceptable standard. The Barossa Council undertook extensive public consultation process in late 2008, sending surveys out to each ratepayer within the council area. The results from the survey showed that the majority of respondents were in favour of a new health and fitness centre being constructed. Construction of the new Barossa Aquatic and Fitness Centre is now underway and Ivan is pleased that the project has received a boost with $2 million in funding from the Federal Government through the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP). The new centre is anticipated to open in 2011 and Ivan looks forward to the completion of the project as it will be an asset to the region and of great benefit to the community.
