Member for Schubert, Mr Ivan Venning is enraged that he was refused entry to Mannum District Hospital on Wednesday because “he didn’t have Ministerial approval”.

“In my 19 years as a Member of Parliament and a regular visitor to hospitals in my Electorate, I have never sought such approval, never before been refused access and I’ve visited hospitals at either no or short notice as my town visits dictated” Mr Venning said.

“I take this as an affront and a deliberate act, preventing me from carrying out my Parliamentary duties.

“If I’d done something wrong – maybe there could be a reason, but I’m unaware of anything untoward.

“And to make this worse, in the case of Mannum, I am a member of the Health Advisory Council (HAC) – I position I hold as required by legislation.

“The question I ask is – is this just more bureaucratic bull from this very nervous State Government, or is it a direct instruction from Minister Hill?

“Either way, I am hostile to this decision – I felt like just fronting up and being refused entry face to face, but I wouldn’t do that to the local management of the hospital, who I do respect and realise it is not their high handed act.

“Be assured, if this is the Rann Labor Government’s new way of doing things – the gloves are off!!” he said.
